Naas town councillor Alan O’Kelly has stood down.
The Fine Gael councillor was first elected in the 2009 Local Elections to Naas Town Council.
He told a Naas Town Council meeting on September 17 he is opting out because of family and business reasons.
“Having discussed this with family and friends I have decided to step down and this will be my last meeting. I have enjoyed being a councillor and it has been a privilege to serve. I want thank all of the people who elected me and who have helped me,” Cllr. O’Kelly said.
A Naas resident, Cllr. O’Kelly also thanked Naas Town Council and Kildare County Council staff.
He said that given the pressures on him outside politics, it is important to give somebody else an opportunity to serve.
