KILCOCK will be busy this weekend when friends and relatives of the late Ciara O’Brien celebrate her 25th birthday.

Ciara passed away last year after a brave battle with cancer.

This Friday, 3 May, 65 teams will take part in a special fund raising event for “Professor McCaffrey Cancer Research Fund” at the Mater Hospital.

Ciara’s father, Liam, said this week the golf event was announced around three weeks ago and within three days was fully booked up.

On Saturday, 4 May a very large crowd is expected to take part in the 5K fun walk around the Laragh area of Kilcock.

The run was was organised by Shane Downes and by 1 May, he had tripled his fundraising target online.

A number of friends are in Australia. One anonymous entry captures some of the spirit: “Heres a few quid from oz dude i wont be home.”

Registration starts from 8:30am onwards in Kilcock GAA and the walk/jog will commence at 11:00am.

There will be light refreshments afterwards in Kilcock GAA Club after the walk.

The €10 registration fee and all proceeds will go towards Professor John McCaffrey Cancer Research Fund. Those wanting to donate online should go to http://www.mycharity.ie/event/shane_downess_event
