A Newbridge primary teacher took part in a recent summer course called ‘Come to Your Senses’ to bring science alive with hands on experiments in the class room.

Aileen Craddock, teacher at St. Conleth’s Infant School in Newbridge joined primary teachers from around Ireland to participate in the science course for the primary curriculum which took place in the Royal College of Surgeons during the first weekend in July. It is described as a ‘novel way for teachers to develop their science teaching skills’ with hands-on activities and experiments in the classroom.

The Initiative is a component of the REACH RCSI programme which promotes Recreation, Education and Community Health. It is approved by the Department of Education and is fully funded by RCSI. The course used the theme of the human senses to enable primary school teachers to develop their interest and enthusiasm for teaching science with direct relevance to the primary science curriculum.
