The launch of the Kildare 10K Mini Marathon in aid of the Carers Association took place last Thursday.
The run will take place in Newbridge on Sunday 19 August at 12 noon from Ryston Sports and Social Club.
This event has been described as “a one size fits all” event, which aims to attract top athletes, along with male and female joggers or walkers of all ages and abilities.
Participants will be representing The Carers Association as well as their favourite charity or club, as this event provides an opportunity to every local charity or voluntary organisation in County Kildare to raise much needed funds.
The Kildare Sports Partnership, Newbridge Athletic Club, Colgan Sports and local charities including Jack & Jill were present to support the event. “It’s great that someone can be cared for in their own home, but we must ensure that supports are continued to be provided to the Family Carers in the work that they do” said Anne Flynn, Area Manager for the Carers Association. It is “a delight to have an event such as this in Newbridge and to continue to build on the wonderful community spirit within Kildare”. Anne encouraged everyone to come out on the day and to take part as it’s not only for running, but it’s very achievable for walkers too.
The 10K route will start and finish at Ryston Sports & Social Club.
“We’re very grateful to Kildare Sports Partnership, Newbridge Athletic Club, the Order of Malta, Local Gardai and the Kildare Scouts for assisting us with this event and to Ryston Sports & Social Club who have very kindly offered the use of their facilities for the day,” said Annette McCaul, Fundraising Manager of the Carers Association.
Registration forms are available each week in the Leinster Leader or from the local Carers Association.
