A ‘marshal error’ at the third annual Run Kildare on the Curragh last Sunday meant one elite runner could have lost out on first place in the 10K race held at the Curragh Racecourse last Sunday writes Paula Campbell.

Elite runner Brian McMahon was mistakenly guided off course by a marshal as he led the 10K causing him to lose out to the official winner Pat Byrne who ran the race in 34:17.

However organisers have apologised on behalf of the marshal who they claim was “not alert” on the day and have kindly offered the cash prize for first place of €300 to both runners.
