No funds are available to carry out traffic calming beside two Newbridge schools.
That’s according to a report made by Kildare County Council officials to a recent Kildare Area Committee meeting. Cllr Michael ‘Spike’ Nolan had asked the council to commit to traffic calming measures on the busy road outside the Holy Family Secondary School.
The girls’ secondary is situated on the main Newbridge to Naas road, and several primary schools plus the Patrician Brothers boys’ secondary school are also located in the vicinity.
Cllr Nolan was told that the council’s Roads Design section and the Area Engineer would be willing to meet him on site to discuss the provision of the measures. However, officials said ominously, “it should be noted that there is no funding available at present to undertake any such works at this location”.
Cllr Nolan also asked when traffic calming measures would be installed along Sexes Road in the town, outside the new Scoil na Naomh Uilig primary. He received a similar response.
