Curragh Camp to mark 90th anniversary of British handover

THE 90th Anniversary of the hand over of the Curragh Camp from the British Army in May 1922 will take plce on Friday, May 18 next.

Brigadier General Séamus Ó Giolláin, General Officer Commanding the Defence Forces Training Centre will mark the anniversary of the hand over at a ceremony to be held at the Watertower, Curragh Camp at 1130 a.m. on Friday 18th May.

A representative body of the Defence Forces, will participate in marking the event through the raising of the Tricolour on the Watertower. An ecumenical service will then take place to remember those Curragh Camp members, who have passed away over the last ninety years. A short historical address will follow, presented by Professor Eunan O’Halpín, Professor of Irish History at Trinity College Dublin, to mark the significance of the event.
