A number of Naas CBS students were honoured at the Leaving Certificate awards night which took place at the school last week.
The event was held days after principal Noel Merrick informed parents that he would be retiring from the post next February.
The new principal is likely to be appointed before that date to the 900 student school.
The principal award recipients were Ronan Mac Giolla Rua and Conor Davis who jointly won James Fanning award for the Best Leaving Certificate results. Conor Davis also won the Best All-Round Student Award, named after Denis Dunning, a former teacher.
Sean Grassick and Kieran Lardner awards for construction studies project (David Phelan award) and sports, respectively.
Excellence awards went to: Darren Cunningham, Luke Mather, Kieran Lardner, Adam Trundle, John Quirke, Liam Power, John Joyce, Adam Jackson, David McGrath, Niall Connolly, Christopher Foley, Eoin Hughes, David Watson, Warren Sexton, Kevin O’Neill, Igor Szyszka, David Boothman, Conor Keaveney, Adam Fitzsimons, Andrew Loughnane, Fiachra Piggott, Michael Walsh, Rory Dignam, Robert Keogh, Shane Dunne, Vsevolods Caka, Jonathan Heavey and Niall O’Connor.
Bursary awards, named after Liam McManus, a retired CBS teacher and vice principal, went to Adam McGovern, Ciaran McEnroy, Declan McEnroy, Ian Murphy and Eric O’Keeffe.
A number of other events took place including elections to the new Parents Council as well an annual report from Mr. Merrick as principal. It started with a short prayer service delivered by chaplain and parish priest Fr. John Brickley.
A total of 117 students sat the Leaving Cert exams in ‘13.
