€500 of oil siphoned from house tank

A house in Kildare town was left without home heating oil after it was siphoned from the tank in their garden. The homeowner at Greyabbey had purchased a fill of oil at the end of February but when they put on the heating on March 1 last, they discovered it wasn’t working.

When they checked the tank, they found it was empty. Gardai say this crime is becoming more common and are urging homeowners to be vigilant about their tanks by locking them or by fitting an inexpensive alarm to them.
