The village of Carbury is this week coming to terms with the death of a local elderly woman less than a mile from her own home.

Jane Fox, known as Jenny, died following injuries sustained in a car accident near Derriturn at 3.30 on Wednesday afternoon, July 31.

It is believed that only one vehicle was involved in what Gardai say was a “serious single vehicle collision”.

Mrs. Fox was travelling with her 77 year old husband and their 10 year old grandson. She was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore following the incident where she was later pronounced dead.

Her husband and their grandson were also hospitalised, but for non life-threatening injuries.

The road was sealed off by Gardai to allow for technical examination by Gardai.

Cllr. Seamus Langan who lives close to the scene of the accident described the tragedy as “very, very, very sad... For it to happen so close to their home.”

Mrs. Fox’s funeral took place yesterday, Monday August 5 at the Holy Trinity Church, Derrinturn.
