Kellystown Lane on track for April opening

KILDARE County Council hope that Kellystown Lane in Leixlip will be open by 8 April.

KILDARE County Council hope that Kellystown Lane in Leixlip will be open by 8 April.

At the meeting of the Council’s Celbridge area committee on 15 March, members were told that money for the repair of the approach embankment to Sandsford Bridge has been approved.

The conservation architect started work on 13 March and it was hoped to have the road opened to the public by 8 April.

The closure of the road, which runs along side the Intel Ireland plant in Leixlip has been inconvenient for many drivers in the area, particularly Dublin-bound drivers who could reach west Dublin locations via the lane and Kellystown road. Instead, they have been diverted through the Leixlip village.

Jonathan Deane, who is acting as area engineer, said he hoped finance would come from an “external” source.

In January the Council denied a suggestion it had plans to close the Lane.
