FORMER rugby international, Trevor Brennan, is one of a a number of Leixlip emmigrants who will take part in a documentary on the ‘Gathering’.

As highlighted recently in the Leader, Animo TV is making a documentary on 2013 “The Gathering” for RTE, and the production company has appealed to locals there for contacts and stories.

At the centre of the production is Cleona Ni Chrualaoi, who will be remembered by some in Co. Kildare as a reporter and news presenter with the Kildare local radio station, KFM’s forerunner, CKRM.

Cleona has said that that Brennan, now based in Toulouse where he is in business and involved with rugby, has agreed to take part.
“Trevor Brennan is participating in the Leixlip episode because he is a well-known, successful individual from Leixlip. He’s coming back to be informed, to find out a little about the history of emigration from Leixlip from knowledgeable parties, go on a personal journey himself, meet people in Leixlip who have family, like him, that have moved overseas for one reason or another.”

Cleona said that it is hoped the Gathering will bring back an extra 300,000 visitors to the country.
Her production company is doing a six-part series, a programme in six different towns andsuburbs in Ireland with each programme fronted by a key member of the Irish diaspora from the world of film, business, sport, music, comedy and television.

In Leixlip they have chosen the former Barnhall rugby player.

The company is due to be filming in Leixlip this Friday to Sunday, 28-30 August inclusive.

In addition they will launch a video invite on Tuesday, September 11. “We’d like to host a community get together on one of those days in August where we’d feature gathering ideas from local businesses and sporting clubs to social organisations and ordinary residents,” she said.

If anyone has a Leixlip family story of emigration to tell, Cleona Ni Chrualaoi would like to hear from you. Her email address is Cleona@animo.ie and her number is 087-3296776.
