CHILDREN from all of the primary schools in Naas welcomed President Michael D Higgins to the town today.
Pres. Higgins, who was elected last November was in town to open McAuley Place development, off Sallins Road.
The development is a former convent and parish centre, almost one and a half centuries old which has been transformed to provide inter-generational community facilities and independent living units for the over 65s.
It consists of 53 self-contained apartments, the Convent Tea Rooms, a community centre, an arts and culture centre and a volunteer centre.
Pres. Higgins planted a tree to mark the next phase of the development which is to build a Health through Learning Centre and an interactive garden.
