Post office employee taken by gang

Gardaí at Naas are investigating an aggravated burglary and false imprisonment in Prosperous early today (Friday April 22). A female An Post employee, was taken from her Ballinafagh home, where she was with her mother and sister, by a gang armed with crowbars and a sledge hammer.

Gardaí at Naas are investigating an aggravated burglary and false imprisonment in Prosperous early today (Friday April 22). A female An Post employee, was taken from her Ballinafagh home, where she was with her mother and sister, by a gang armed with crowbars and a sledge hammer.

The woman was driven to driven to the post office but it was not possible for the men to get access to money because of the security procedures and systems that were in place.

They returned to the house with the woman and she was put back into the bedroom with the other two females. The culprits then fled the scene and the alarm was raised a short time later by one of the females who managed to escape.

No-one was physically injured.

This ordeal lasted approximately an hour and a half and anyone who may have seen activity from 1am to 2.30am betweenBallinafagh and the post office itself in Prosperous is asked to contact the gardaí at Naas on 045 884300.

A garda spokesman said the three women had been put through a traumatic experience.
