A Leixlip student has taken to a wheelchair for three days to see what using one is like.
NUI Maynooth student, Christopher Hannan, chose to spend 72 hours in a wheelchair to raise awareness of obstacles those with disability meet.
After raising nearly €500, he told the Leader he will be making observations to Kildare County Council, Dublin Bus, Irish Rail and NUIM on his three day trial, which took place from 18-20 February.
Justin Reddin, Enable Ireland, who thanked Chris, said society should adapt to make sure people in wheelchairs are not restricted in society . Chris, from Oaklawn, also raised money towards to build a childrens playground at Enable Ireland’s children services in Jigginstown Naas.
Chris, who is running for Welfare and Equality Officer in the 12 March Student Union elections, thanked Naas based Back2 Mobile for provding a free wheelchair for the three days. He plans to contribute to a disability audit of the university campus and will raise issues with others.
