Suncroft and Castledermot targeted by armed raiders

The first took place at Behan’s Petrol Station in Castledermot on May 17.

Two men entered the shop at 10.55pm. One was carrying a firearm, which appeared to be a sawn-off shot gun, while the other man produced a bag and demanded cash from the shop manager.

He produced a baseball bat and the men fled empty handed.

One man was described as being 5ft 10 inches. He was wearing a navy top with a white stripe and blue addidas tracksuit bottoms.

The other man, who was also in his twenties, was described as having a local accent. He was wearing a balaclava and was around 6ft tall.

The next day, on May 18, the Centra store at Suncroft was targeted.

At approximately 9.48pm, two men approached one of the workers as she was locking up.

One man appeared to be carrying a firearm and they demanded cash from the till.

The supects made their escape with a sum of cash in a Silver Opel Astra, which may also have been used in the first incident.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the areas on the date in question can contact Castledermot or Kildare garda stations.
