Boarded up Athy houses to be done up and reallocated

Up to five boarded up houses in the Athy area are to be re-allocated following a refit after the council stepped in to buy them, according to Cllr. Mark Wall.

Last week, he welcomed confirmation from the Kildare County Council that progress was being made on the previously boarded up houses.

“The confirmation comes after continued highlighting of the problems these houses were causing in estates regarding attracting anti social behaviour and the obvious need for them to be re-allocated to families in need on the housing list,” said Cllr. Wall.

“This news that the council are now in a position to buy out and re-fit up to five homes in the Athy area is good news on two fronts, firstly it will put an end to these unoccupied houses being used for anti-social behaviour and causing untold problems for long term residents of the estates they are located in, and secondly it will allow hard pressed families on the Council waiting list to plan a new life for themselves in an appropriate family home. I look forward to these homes being allocated in the quickest possible time for the benefit of our communities.”
