Students’ achievements honoured

St Kevin’s Community College held its awards evening on May 7 with a large number of students and parents attending. Guests on the night included Mr. Kevin Lewis, Acting CEO, Councillor Jim Ruttle, Chairperson of the Board of Management and Dr Elizabeth Mc Carthy a past pupil of St Kevin’s and now in a senior position with Deloitte. Also present were retired Principals Mr Fallon and Mr O Luanaigh.

A large number of awards were presented on the night including a significant number of awards for excellent attendance and academic effort in keeping with the College’s mission of encouraging all students to strive for excellence

Among the special awards presented on the night were, The Seamus Miley Memorial Award which is presented to the Junior Sports person of the Year. This award was presented to Patrick O Connor. The Pascal Deering award for the Senior Sports person was presented to Deirbhile Byrne. The Chess award was won by Karl Bostrum with Aaron Hennessey as runner up. Jennifer Mongey Balfe was presented with the Junior Art Award, whilst Jade Walsh won the Senior Art Award. Yvonne Lawlor was presented with the Rowan Hamilton Maths Award by Mr O Luanaigh for the best result in the Leaving Certificate in Mathematics. Nathan O Sullivan was recognised for his success in Business subjects as he won the Enterprise Award.

The Science award was presented to Katie Sullivan by former Principal Mr Padraic O’Luanaigh, the VEC Gaeltacht Scholarships were awarded to Cliodhna Whittle, Padraic Muldoon and Deirbhile Byrne.

The Gradam Na Gaeilge awards were awarded to Niall O’Muiru agus Joanne Ní Buitléir. The award for achievement in the Junior Cert was presented jointly to Kaite Sullivan and Ciara Flood. The Harney Trophy for highest achievement in the Leaving Certificate went to Marina Bogautdinova.

The school congratulated all the students who received awards and thanked all the parents for their support.
