Kildare County Council is to write to the National Roads Authority requesting upgrades to the junction of the M9 and M7 and junction 10 on the N7.

It is hoped that these works would alleviate tailbacks and prevent accidents. Upgrades would be made to the junction of the M9 onto the M7 northbound at the tunnel and at junction 10 on the N7 for Naas and Newbridge.

At the County Council meeting on Monday 28 May, Councillor Tony O’Donnell said that there had been three accidents at the junctions in the space of a month during the morning and evening rush-hour periods.

He said these accidents could cause other commuters to be delayed for work and could cost them their jobs.

He also said that drivers working in Dublin often find themselves driving into a rising sun in the mornings and a setting sun in the evenings, impeding their vision.

He suggested that people could be encouraged to wear sunglasses while driving.
