it was a good day for the Curragh Racecourse on Tuesday when the Dubai Duty Free, one of the leading airport retailers in the world announced that it will renew its sponsorship of the Irish Derby festival for a further three years.
The deal includes the possibility of an option for a further two years.
Dubai Duty Free, which in 2011 recorded a turnover of US$1.46 billion, first sponsored the flagship race in 2008 and has helped to grow and develop the three day festival into what is now one of Europe’s most exciting social and sporting occasions.
The company’s innovation and support of the festival has ensured that the Irish racing experience has gone from strength to strength and now the complete festival incorporates a range of social and sporting activities both on and off the track. Apart from the Irish Derby, Dubai Duty Free will also support five other races on derby day.
The company has been keen for race goers to ‘embrace more than the race’ and the three day festival now includes The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Golf Classic K Club, 28 June, The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Ball K Club, 29 June and the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby itself which, this year will run on Saturday 30, June.
The ball has raised over €150,000 for good causes and this year will be in aid of Irish Autism Action, with Dubai Duty Free itself being a significant contributor.
Speaking at the launch of the festival at the K Club, President of Dubai Duty Free, George Horan noted that “since 2008 our sponsorship of the Irish Derby Festival has been extremely positive for us.
“The Irish Derby is one of the most important racing festivals in the world and we are pleased to be a part of that.
“The events that have grown up alongside the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival involve the wider community to a great extent and we are looking forward to this year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and to the years to come.”
