Right of way to be extinguished

The public right of way at Moore Park cannot be extinguished until both it and the adjoining Millfield estate have been taken in charge, Kildare County Council heard recently.

Residents of Moore Park want the public access blocked up because they are suffering from intimidation and anti-social behaviour, a recent meeting of Kildare Area Committe heard. Cllr Fiona O’Loughlin said the issue had been ongoing for about five years, and needs to be addressed quickly by the council.

The meeting heard that an alternative pedestrian access route to the town has been identified through the nearby Industrial Estate. Funding is in place to complete this access route, but the council is still in discussions with a number of landowners and developers who are involved.

Council officials could not give a timeframe on when the right of way will be extinguished and the new access route opened, the meeting heard.
