The former fireman was at home in Athy when he heard a loud explosion at around 1am. When he looked out his attic window and saw huge sparks in the sky from nearby Perry’s Machinery Garage.

“There were huge bangs, probably the glass and fuel tanks exploding,” he told the Leader. The camera enthusiast then grabbed his gear and rushed to the scene. “I’m a neighbour and I ran to the scene with the camera.” Mr Connell’s most recent footage also includes the Athy St Patrick’s Day Parade, which is available on TheLarryConnell on YouTube.

Units from Athy Fire Station and Monasterevin Fire Station attended the scene, along with several water tankers. In total four second-hand tractors, worth in excess of €50,000 each, were destroyed in the blazing inferno that lasted for more than an hour. There were no injuries.
