An Athy gran, who is battling illness, took to the skies over South Kildare last week as her dream to fly in a helicopter came true.
Lizzy Kelly (76), from Minches Terrace, who suffers from Syringomyelia, even got to do a fly by over her home.
The day was made possible by a new charity - Claire’s Wish Foundation, which helps make wishes come true for adults.
Claire Kelly, Lizzy’s granddaughter said it was a special day.
“She was thrilled. Anytime she saw a helicopter flying by she would always say she would love to go up in one. I went online and I was googling around and I came across Claire’s Wish Foundation. I contacted them and they hadn’t even launched yet but he said he would look into it,” she explained.
On Tuesday November 5, the family were chauffeur driven from Athy to Rathangan by Mcm Chauffeurs where they met up with Billy Doyle from Executive Helicopters. Claire outlined; “Nanny loved it. When we flew over her house, all the family were outside waving. She had her rosary beads on under her jumper.
She said if she was going down she was going down in style but we were perfectly safe. It was very smooth.”
