Last Friday June 21 marked another milestone in the history of Kildangan National School when the new extension was officially opened.

Former principals Marie Quigley and John Sweeney returned to cut the ribbon and unveil the plaque.

The sun shone down and there was a fantastic community atmosphere.

Fr. Gasper Habara celebrated the end of year mass at 11am along with Fr. Liam Merrigan, which was followed by a special blessing.

Pupils, teachers, parents, neighbours and friends joined together for the celebration and enjoyed the tasty refreshments, which were supplied by the Parents Association. Members of the Board of Management were also present.

Mr. Sweeney was Principal from 1963-1998 and Mrs Quigley was in charge from 1998-2011. Principal Sheelagh Murphy remarked; “They both must be credited with having wonderful vision for the school and for developing it over the past 50 years.”

There are 238 pupils enrolled at Kildangan National School. Next year, an extra teacher will be joining the staff bringing the total up to 13.
