The Naas AFC under 12 side have just embarked on their first competitive series of games in the Kildare and District Underage League.

As part of their preparation the team, most of whom have been playing together since they were 7, participated in the Kells Blackwater Tournament - an under 11 tournament - finishing third place having beaten the hosts.

The 16 team tournament, which took place over two weekends with the tams divided into four groups of four teams each, also attracted a team from the famed St. Francis club in Dublin, who won a recent UK tournament in which a team form Arsenal participated.

Last season the team took part on a non-competitive under 11 competition on a home and away basis.

Now they are playing in the KDUL Premier League and against opposition including Sallins, Edenderry, Bush Celtic and Newbridge.

Many of the players have come through the Naas Academy run by James Hilliard and Mike Geoghegan, who effectively manage the team.
