A new compilation of photographs depicting decades of Kildare scenes has just been released by Curragh photographer Oliver McCrossan.

A new compilation of photographs depicting decades of Kildare scenes has just been released by Curragh photographer Oliver McCrossan.

The book details years of triumphs, joys, news events and visits to the Lilywhite county by Hollywood stars, royalty and the Dalai Lama.

Oliver’s new book is called ‘Who, When, Where’ and was launched in Newbridge Silverware last Friday night by Kildare Rose, Hannah Ryan.

The book is a compilationof over 500 photographs from former press photographer Oliver’s archives, and illustrates the many aspects of life around Newbridge and Kildare since the 1950s.

“It features people in their workplace and among their communities as well as relaxing socially,” said Oliver.

“And events that made the headlines including weddings, family celebrations, entertainment and community organisations, sport club events and personalities and military people and ceremonies.”

There is als0 a special motorsport feature, and a 12-page colour section featuring the visit of HM Queen Elizabeth II to the National Stud in 2011. “There is also the visit of the Dalai Lama to Kildare in 2011 and Maureen O’Hara’s visit to Newbridge Silverware, alongside scenes from the winter wonderland of January 2010.” he added.

Oliver has had a passion for photography for over 50 years, ever since, as a schoolboy, his older brother Ciaran gave him the gift of a camera.

Oliver’s book, which is a treasure trove of over 800 photographs chronicles more than 50 years of life in the county.

The book promises to be a nostalgic trip down memory lane for locals who are sure to recognise family and friends in many of the photographs.

Oliver also released a compliation in 2009 called ‘Flashback’, which took four years to compile.
