The 28th Newbridge Community Family Race Day will be held once more at the Curragh Racecourse on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6.
All proceeds from the day donated to worthy charities in the locality by both the Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes.
Father Joe McDermott, Parish Priest of Newbridge and Chairman of the Parishes and Community Festival Race Day Committee is hopeful for a successful day to add to the funds raised in the past.
“The variety of fund raising initiatives at the race day this year will hopefully ensure we have a highly successful day on May 6 and significantly add to the total of monies raised since the race day was initially run 28 years ago”.
A top class program of eight races with leading jockeys will be held throughout the day with the first race kicking off at at 2.15pm alongside family fun activites and live music.
Meanwhile last year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby winner Camelot is expected to run in the featured High Chaparral Mooresbridge Stakes.
A Go Racing Kids Club for primary schools in the Parish will take place at the racecourse prior to the race day, in association with the Racing Academy and Centre of Education and Horse Racing Ireland. All students will spend approximately two hours at the racecourse to learn about various aspects of the horse racing industry. All participants will be asked to write as essay following their visit with the best essays receiving prizes from Newbridge Credit Union. There will also be a display of military equipment courtesy of the Defence Forces.
