Naas parish wants bottle bank moved

NAAS Town Council (NTC) is considering shifting the bottle back currently located at Ballycane Church.

NAAS Town Council (NTC) is considering shifting the bottle back currently located at Ballycane Church.

The most likely alternative location is the Health Service Executive offices near the hospital (formerly the county council offices before the move to Aras Chill Dara).

It emerged at a NTC meeting last week that the parish authorities want the bottle bank moved because it is attracting people who deposit bags of rubbish there.

They also want to free up car parking spaces in the church car park.

Cllr. Seamus Moore said some people are forced to park outside the church area.

He also said that a clothing bank was already removed from the church car park.

Town Clerk Ken Kavanagh said that people want bottle banks and other recycling facilities – but not in their area.

He also pointed out that the Ballycane facility is heavily used.

“We need to find an alternative site or else it means that we are not in favour of recycling,” added Mr. Kavanagh.

Mayor Willie Callaghan said the HSE should be approached as the only possible alternative location.
