Never be ashamed to go for help, was the advice to those who attended the funeral on Wednesday of a 12 year old Kildare girl who took her own life on 24 November.
At the funeral of Lara Burns Gibbs, in Maynooth, chief mass celebrant, Fr. Liam Rigney, said that Lara’s mother, Helene, thanked the community for their tremendous support.
She also wanted everyone to know, especially Lara’s young friends, that nobody should ever be ashamed to go for help to someone if they needed it.
At the 11.00 am mass on 28 November in St Mary’s Church, there was widespread applause for a moving tribute by Lara’s brother, Brendan, also a student at Maynooth Post Primary school.
Before her death, Lara, attended Pieta House in Lucan, a counselling service, and Fr. Rigney asked, on behalf of the Lara’s family, for donations to that.
Lara was later laid to rest in Laraghbryan Cemetery.
