VTOS Newbridge held their annual awards ceremony on Thursday 22 November 2012 to celebrate the achievements of their mature students over the past two years.

The scheme - Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme - provides a second chance education for learners who are over 21 and in receipt of some form of social welfare.

“We provide major awards in Childcare, Community Care, Art, Craft and Design and Business Studies at Fetac Level 5 as well as Junior and Leaving Certificate English,” said Co-Ordinator Ray Creighton.

“The NUI Maynooth Certificate in Social Studies, ECDL at ordinary and advanced level and nearly 60 minor modules at Fetac Level 5. Students attending may receive help with travel and childcare to facilitate their attendance.”

The centre practices a philosophy of ‘student centred learning’ where each learner will be appointed with a mentoring tutor who will work with the individual to produce a learning plan which will reflect the learner’s needs and goals.
