The family fun day hosted at the Church of Ireland’s St. David’s Church in Naas town centre is likely to become an annual event.

According to the organisers more people attended the June 3 event than turned up last year not least because there were were lots more attractions.

Despite the unseasonal rain which arrived during the day, the 800th anniversary of the church was celebrated.

The Church of Ireland parish covers the areas of Naas, Rathmore and Kill and there are more than 200 parishioners as well as smaller churches in both Kill and Rathmore.

The fun day is also a necessary fundraiser (for the church at a time when money is hard to come by but it’s also seen as a way of encouraging people to visit the town centre of Naas.

It also provides a reason for people to visit the church setting – something of a scenic idyll with attractive grounds in the centre of the town, off the busy main throughfare.

As well as various fairground-type attractons there was a strong emphasis on arts and crafts
