Concern over bus stop near Kildare village

Motorists have had several near misses near a new bus stop, which has been installed near the roundabout close to the entrance of the Kildare Village.

Cllr Suzanne Doyle told last Wednesday’s (February 15) Kildare Area Committee meeting that cars had been backed up behind the bus as it pulled in near the roundabout. She questioned whether bus stops needed planning permission or any kind of consultation or approval from the gardai. The council said it has no role in the location of bus stops and it was a matter between the gardai and bus operator. The bus stop is being operated by a private company. Cllr. Doyle said given the current planning application for the extension of the Kildare Village, it was important that traffic be monitored in that location. “This bus stop is in a very inappropriate location,” she noted. She asked the council to write to the Department of Transport about the matter.
