A large crowd turned out at The Village Pump, Rathangan last Saturday night to cheer on the Jedward as they made a bid for Eurovision glory. The twins, who grew up across the road from the pub, were cheered on by locals as they performed their entry “Lipstick”.
“We had a good crowd in and there was a great atmosphere,” remarked proprietor, Una Donohoe, “It was really exciting during the voting. They were doing really well at the start but then they fell back a bit. You just never knew what way the voting was going to go with so many countries involved. We had a great night and eighth is a very respectable finish.”
The boys, who now live in Lucan, attended Scoil Bhride before moving on to Rathangan Boy’s National School after first class.
They charmed fans from all over the world since they arrived in Dusseldorf and were greeted by hundreds of fans when they arrived back at Dublin airport last Sunday May 15. John and Edward achieved the highest position for an Irish entry since 2000 but Azerbaijan proved too strong and claimed the Eurovision crown. However, the twins’ euro adventure has already paid dividends with their single already reaching number one in Sweden.
“They have done really well and they have a great future in front of them. The Donohue family would like to wish them well,” added Una.
