It could be March 2014 before Derrinturn locals have any respite from the bad smells from the local mushroom plant.
Kildare County Council established a deadline of July for the Carbury Compost, which owns the plant, to install ‘odour abatement technology’.
However, in May, Council officials concluded that “no significant progress” had been made on the installation.
In recent weeks the company has said that specialist contractors would be engaged to carry out the work.
Last Tuesday, June 11, Clane Area Committee members were told that the company had contacted the Council the day before to say that they “are now finalising an agreement with specialist contractors.
“Work will commence in October 2013 with a completion date of February/March 2014,” they said.
Noting that their July deadline still stands, Council officials say they will “await developments”.
Cllr. Seamus Langan responded that locals have put up with these problems for far too long.
