The Friends of St Brigid’s Hospice have opened another charity shop in Kildare as they push to extend their current seven bed palliative care facility in the Curragh.

A new shop has just opened beside Colaiste Chiarain on the Celbridge road in Leixlip, an addition to the Friends shop on Main Street.

Spokesperson, Eileen McDonald and Dr. Ena Hanlon said the second shop would help to increase furniture sales. The Friends have one shop in Naas and another, in Kilcock, run by Mrs. Brilly, which has raised nearly €300,000 in recent years.

They emphasised that the four shops named are the only charity shops specifically serving the hospice and asked for their hospice supporters specifically to continuing support these shops.

The voluntary led group, which liaises with the HSE, will hold its agm on 17 October next in the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge, (7.30pm) which the public is invited to attend. “Every penny is accounted for,” said Dr. Hanlon.

She said plan to provide five extra palliative care beds will require an extra €200,000 to run.
