THE Derby Festival Committee has launched this year’s Christmas card collection featuring a variety of winter scenes from the Kildare town locality.
Proceeds from the sale of the cards, which are available at Aras Bhride and other shops in the town, will help fund the Christmas tree, which will adorn the square in the coming weeks. The cards cost €2 each, or a pack of ten can be bought for €10.
Derby Festival Chairman and local electrician Ollie Kearns is looking forward to this year’s festive season.
“We are putting the lights up this week and we hope to have them turned on on December 8. The cards have also been launched. They feature photos of snow scenes and winter scenes from a number of local photographers,” he said.
Also on the same day, Santa will pay a special visit to the CYMS and Aras Bhride. Kildare Parish Pastoral Council and the Derby Festival committee are hosting a Winter Wonderland Craft Fair and Santa’s Grotto from 12pm to 6pm. The craft fair will be held in the main CMS Hall and Aras Bhride and will be packed with stalls full of items such as jewellery, home baking, arts and crafts, sweet hampers, and cosmetic hampers.
Entry to the fair is free while the visit to Santa costs €5, with discounts for families with three or more children. Booking is essential at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 045 521000.
There will also be dance and music performances by a variety of local groups and solo artists throughout the day. At 5.30pm Santa and Mrs Claus will leave by horse and cart while the elves lead a lantern light procession to the grounds of the Parish Church where carol singing will take place around the live crib. Families are then invited into the family mass for 6.30pm.
