Prosperous-based Amelia Raben recently appeared on RTE’s Supergarden programme which saw the designer turn a basic Leixlip garden into something more beautiful.

Amelia specialises in front and back gardens of terraced housing.

RTE chose her to turn the garden of Clare and Shane McElvany in Glen Easton into something better, at no cost to the couple.

It would cost over €5,000 to carry out the work, Amelia told the Leader.

The McElvany’s loved it although Clare was not too keen on the table featured in the garden, said Ameila, who was delighted with the response to her design, which was linked to goods from Woodies

Born in London, Amelia first gardened at her father’s family estate, Hilton Park in Monaghan.

While not a horticulturalist by training, she had done garden design courses.

“I didn’t expect to get onto the programme at first,” said Amelia. But when she did events moved very quickly. “It was a whirlwind. I was asked to get the design ready in a day.”

There was a lot of work involved and help from volunteers , said Amelia, who lives between Prosperous and Allenwood. More on her designs is on her Facebook page.
