A Garda investigation is taking place into the fire at the old Cemex plant on the outskirts of Naas last evening (Thursday).
A Kildare County Council Fire Service representative declined to comment on the possible cause of the fire when contacted by the Leader today.
Firemen from three stations battled the blaze at the old Cemex plant on the Dublin side of Naas, close to the big ball monument before bringing it under control in less than two hours.
There was some traffic congestion at the location caused mainly by motorists slowing down to get a view of the unfolding drama.
Black smoke billowed from the site and could be seen up to three miles away and the smell of burning rubber could be detected in Naas town centre.
