TWO suspects in the murder investigation into the murder of Melanie McCarthy McNamara (16) in Dublin were arrested in Athy yesterday (Thursday).

Gardaí are continuing to question the two men in relation to the murder in Tallaght.

The teenager and man in his early 20s were detained in Athy, Co Kildare, following a Garda operation yesterday.

They are being held in Tallaght Garda station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Ms McCarthy was in a car with three men parked outside a house on Brookview Way on February 7th when a black SUV pulled alongside and one of the occupants opened fire, fatally wounding the teenager in the head.

Her friends drove her at speed to Tallaght hospital, but she was pronounced dead at 1am.

Gardaí believe the gunman was trying to shoot a man known to Ms McCarthy but botched the killing and fatally wounded the girl instead.

Anyone with information on the killing is asked to contact Tallaght Garda station 01-6666000, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
