Athgarvan native and Leinster Leader columnist, Annie Morris has written her first children’s novel called ‘Billy Dunk - My Dad’s A Genius’ about the exploits of a little boy called Billy and his chatterbox best friend called Mario.
Aimed at eight to ten year olds, the book is described as a funny, fast paced, comedy thriller. It has been picked up by an agent and will be taken to the Frankfurt Book Fair next month with the hope that it will be published.
“I wrote the book about six months ago,” said Annie whose first novel ‘Help I got a baby’ was published 16 years ago and was a big hit in Germany.
“It was in development for a long time and I had to get kids to read it so I got some 12 year olds at the local school, Scoil Bhride to read it and I discovered that it was actually suited for younger children. It is a long process.”
The book is a 24 hour peak into the life of an ordinary little boy called Billy, whose mother has had to go away for two weeks leaving Billy in the sole charge of his fireman dad. “I have a whole series in my head,” explained Annie. “Children’s publishing is hard to get into at the moment but I got such good feedback from the children who kindly read it for me.” The duo end up solving a mystery.
