Newbridge town councillor Damian Molyneaux has joined Sinn Fein.
He resigned as a member of the Labour Party last September, citing disillusionment with the party leadership and performance as a reason.
He joined Sinn Fein during the past week, according to a party statement released today.
“My decision to join Sinn Féin, like my decision to leave the Labour Party, was not taken lightly,” stated Cllr Molyneaux. “My reason for being in politics is to defend working people and to stand up for those who are in most need in society.”
He is the second high-profile Kildare Labour defector to join Sinn Fein in recent months.
Cllr Thomas Redmond of Athy Town Council also left the Labour party last September. However, he announced that he was joining Sinn Fein immediately upon that resignation.
Sinn Féin whip Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD welcomed Councillor Damian Molyneaux to the party.
