Not even the rain could dampen the atmosphere at the recent Sarsfields GAA annual summer family fun and sports day held on Sunday, June 23 last.
Over 1,500 Sarsfields family members and friends came through Sarsfields Park gates to enjoy a plethora of activities.
“On show were carnival rides, bronco buckaroo, bungee trampoline, horse riding, running races, inflatable penalty shootout, face painting, skittles and a multitude of bouncy slides, castles and obstacle courses,” said PRO Micheal Byrne.
“Music blasted from the outdoor stage with a mixture of modern dj tracks and live traditional music from the brilliant “Wry Tours” band. The Clubhouse was packed with football and hurling fans, who watched the Ulster football and Munster hurling semi finals, while Newbridge scouts demonstrated their ware with a make shift campsite.”
Kildare footballers Alan Smith and Peter Kelly were on hand to sign autographs, while Mickey and Minnie mouse met and took photos with the younger children in the Clubhouse hall.
“The Clubs Boys Feile team raised money through a cake sale stand for their Feile trip to Derry, as the in-house chef supervised the BBQ to feed the masses,” he added.
“To round off the day the Clubs seniors played Confey in a league fixture to send the stragglers home exhausted but elated.
“Special thanks goes to event sponsors, including Newbridge scouts However without the dedication of the clubs Dermot Earley Football Skills Academy coaches and volunteers, other club volunteers and all the clubs wonderful parents, players and members, the event would not have been a magical success.”
