Gardai arrested five young men near Kilcock this morning as part of an operation targeting criminal activity in the Dublin region.
The gardai used a ‘stinger’ device to stop a car being driven at high speed down the M4.
The operation began at about 1.40am this morning, April 23, when a silver Ford Mondeo was observed close to Newcastle, Co. Dublin.
When attempts were made to stop this car it was driven off at high speed towards Lucan. As the Mondeo drove westbound on the M4, the assistance of the Garda Air Support Unit was requested and they were able to relay the vehicle location to units on the ground.
A ‘stinger’ device was deployed and the vehicle successfully stopped on the M4 close to Kilcock and this led to the arrest of the five occupants.
Two juveniles and three teenage males were arrested and taken to Leixlip Garda Station.
Three of these youths were later charged and released on bail to appear at Kilcock District Court on May 21 next. The two juveniles will be cautioned under the Juvenile Deferral System.
