A CLANE man who punched out a man’s front tooth in a case of mistaken identity, was ordered to pay E1,500 in compensation to the victim at Naas District Court last Wednesday November 28.

James Broe, with an address given at 28 Parkview, Millicent Road, Clane pleaded guilty to the charge.

Judge Desmond Zaidan heard that Mr. Broe was out in Clane on May 22 2011.

A man noticed the defendant walking home at 2am in an agitated state.

He had been beaten up by a group of people unknown to the man.

He approached Mr. Broe to see if he was alright and the defendant punched him in the face.

His front tooth was knocked out.

Solicitor Conal Boyce explained the defendant thought that the man was part of the group who attacked him and that was why he lashed out. He said he had brought e1,000 to court as compensation on a previous occasion but he had since dipped into it. He said his client had since joined AA.

Judge Zaidan ordered him to bring e1,500 to court on May 27 to pay for the victim’s dental work.
