Councillor slams neglect of ‘most vulnerable’

A local councillor has slammed what he believes is the neglect of the most vulnerable people in society.

Cllr. Seamus Langan raised the matter of negotiations between Kildare County Council and the HSE with regard to a building that is currently being used as a day-care centre for elderly people in Derrinturn.

The building is due to be demolished to make way for the new R402 road between Enderry and Enfield.

He asked for a report on the negotiations and wondered why the council had to CPO

two buildings when only one was required?

“Carbury Day Care senior citizens will be homeless after 32 years there.”

However, a one line report from council officials gave away nothing. “Negotiations in respect of the CPO are still ongoing and remain commercially sensitive.”

“Those people (the senior citizens) get it very hard to accept it at this stage,” Cllr. Langan said angrily.

“They are the most vulnerable people in our society. This is a terrible situation altogether.”

“Everybody else is settled up along that road,” he said referring to negotiations with other landowners along the way.

He added that he had heard a figure floating around for how much the Council was offering and said he didn’t believe a day care centre could be replaced for that amount of money.
