Mayor of Kildare and Newbridge town councillor Michael Spike Nolan has welcomed the news that the long awaited review of pay parking for Newbridge is to commence later in the month.
“Frustration by business owners and residents of Newbridge has been ongoing over the past number of years,at the current set up of pay parking in the town,” he said.
“There is also the ongoing issue of parking in and around schools each weekday morning,And with the review now here i will be calling for the pay parking hours not to start until at least 9.30am, This can in my view alleviate some of the traffic problems that are experienced each school day morning. Where parents can park along the town knowing that the will not be ticketed and have the time to drop their children to school will free up the traffic outside the schools.”
Each year there is always the call for free parking in Newbridge on Christmas week.
”This could not be delivered because the current by-laws for pay parking did not allow for any free time during the hours of pay parking,” he said,
“Now the possibility for this can be achieved through the review. This is the one opportunity that the people of Newbridge Have on the say of pay parking in the town I would encourage the people to get their submissions in to Kildare County Council after May 15 which is the commencement date of the review.”
