In what is likely to be one of the more unusual Gatherings, the Fertility Clinic at Clane Hospital is organising a reunion of families who benefited from their clinics and for the children who were born using those services.

The event will take place on August 31 in Lullymore, and is intended to highlight almost 20 years of the clinic’s successes.

There are, Martina Kelly from Clane Fertility Clinic told the Leinster Leader, over 1,000 children who were born following successful assisted fertility treatment at the Clinic.

“We’ve invited all of the families to take part. We’re planning to have a big party to celebrate then children,” she explained.

“This is something that’s never been done before.”

Martina admits that staff at the Clinic weren’t entirely sure that families would be open to the idea. A lot of people still find it difficult to talk about and there is, she believes, still a certain amount of stigma attached.

“But we had an excellant response. So far, more than 170 families have responded.”
