Jonathan Irwin, CEO and Founder of the Johnstown based Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation has called on Senators, including his wife and independent Senator Mary Ann O’Brien who co-founded the charity, to oppose the Social Welfare Bill this week when it comes before the house.

“On behalf of the 300 sick children and their families supported by the Jack & Jill Foundation, I’m calling on Senators to do battle in the chamber this week and to vote down this Social Welfare Bill which equates to a Bill of Torture for carers,” Mr Irwin said.

“In particular, the proposed cut in the respite care grant is unjust and unfair and a real slap in their face. If approved, this Bill will create a false economy that will backfire as carers collapse under the strain and sick children and elderly parents are forced back into hospital beds, which nobody wants.”
