A young Newbridge teenager took the brave step last month of having her hair chopped off to make wigs for children suffering from cancer and allopecia.

As well as having her hair cut, 13 year-old Gaelcholaiste student, Aoife Doyle also raised €600 for the Rapunzel Foundation.

The daughter of John and Francis Doyle, her proud aunt Mary said Aoife was very socially aware with a compassionate spirit.

She was growing her hair for several years in order to reach thelength required to make a wig.

On May 23, she said goodbye to 14 inches off her 18 inch locks with Katie from Eternal Flair at Curragh Grange doing the honours. “Go raibh maith agaibh go léir a thóg an arigead do Rapunzel Foundation,” said Aoife.
