The hunt is on for the Kildare Derby Festival Queen

The launch of the Derby Festival Queen was held recently at the Kildare House Hotel.

Festival organisers are looking for girls between 18 and 26 to enter this year’s festival queen competition, which will be held on June 17 next at the Kildare House Hotel.

“At the moment we are still looking for 16 girls,” said organiser Ollie Kearns.

“We have six at the moment. It is seen as the first phase of the Rose of Tralee and the winner can get up €1,000 worth of prizes including VIP passes, Newbridge Silverware and cash.”

The winner also goes on to represent the festival at next years Rose of Tralee Kildare selection.

Organisers are also looking for entries to the Derby Festival parade which will take place on Sunday June 19 next through the square.

“The square will be the place to be that day if the weather is fine,” he added.

“There will be lots going on including the Thoroughbred Run, the Taste of Kildare, and lots more yet to be finalised. The programme will be out the first week of June. All details will be in the programme. During the racing weekend on June 25 and 26 we will have three tribute bands to Johnny Cash, Elvis and the Beach Boys. There will be arts and crafts going on all week and story telling.We are still looking for entries for the parade.”
